Sidra Menendez Val d'Ornón Natural Cider 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

The history of Sidra Menéndez began like that of many Asturian cider houses. Founded by Gerardo Menéndez Fano in the 1940’s on the family farm, he was motivated principally by pride in his land and community. Produced and consumed within miles of the cider house, the Menéndez family has stayed true to traditional methods to create some of the the freshest and highest quality products in Asturias. Seventy years and two generations later, Sidra Menéndez still exhibits these same qualities. In 2009, under the leadership of brother-sister duo Gerardo and Lucia, Sidra Menéndez opened a beautiful new production facility and tasting room. There they produce a spectacular cider in the old style, the DOP-certified Val d’Ornón. Using a hand selected blend of 22 heirloom varietals and fermented in chestnut barrels, the Val d’Ornón is the very benchmark of quality and tradition. The Val d’Ornón should ideally be enjoyed in the traditional escanciador style, poured from a four-foot height in one of Asturias’ many bars or alleys. But if that isn’t possible, be sure to enjoy this authentic expression of Spanish heritage with friends and family. We promise, the effects will be nearly as memorable.
