Shoofly Shiraz 2015

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This offers up lovely tones of boysenberry and blueberry with just the subtlest roasted edge that contributes to a bit of a jammy quality but the vanilla tones and a honied floral character offer some complexity. With a big sweet entry that promises more than it delivers on the ponderous mid-palate, this offers deep fruit but no finesse and the alcohol sticks out a bit. A bit obvious. 84pts

Australians are serious about keeping their cool. They may look relaxed as they casually shoo away the incessantly buzzing flies, but the message is clear - nothing's going to get them down! They tend to take life's challenges in stride and simply get on with the job at hand. Like making wines with some oomph and stuffing, the sort you’d just as likely tuck into with your midweek pasta and take to a fancy dinner party on the weekend. That said, they take their winemaking pretty seriously, and it shows with Shoofly’s collection of robust, full-of-flavor wines. Crafted from hand-selected vineyard sites that are rich in character and demonstrate true varietal pedigree, these are wines that show Australia at its best. Read less

A very refreshing red thanks to pronounced acidity and mint notes lingering behind a palate of black fruit and earthy tones.

Deep dark chocolate jam notes. Easy to drink. Delicious with my chocolate chip cookie.

Fresh and expressive, with a mineral note weaving through the ripe blackberry and licorice flavors. Lingers enticingly. Drink now through 2018. 7,000 cases imported.

Vivid ruby. Musky cherry and raspberry preserve aromas are lifted by a peppery note and a hint of fresh flowers. Plush, fruity and open-knit, offering round red and dark berry flavors and a touch of licorice. Closes warm and spicy, with smooth tannins coming on late and adding gentle grip.

Deep garnet in color, the 2012 Shiraz has notes of black cherries and blackberries with hints of tar, licorice and dirt. Medium-bodied with a decent amount of fruit, it is shaped by soft, rounded tannins and harmonious acid through to a medium length, straightforward finish. Drink it now to 2016.

Fresh and inviting, showing dark berry, oatmeal and dill flavors on a supple frame. Finishes ripe and expressive. Best from 2016 through 2020.

Bright purple. Dark berries, woodsmoke and cracked pepper on the nose and palate. Very syrah in character. Chewy, focused and gently sweet, with good finishing power and lingering smokiness.
