What to Expect

Syrah: One of the few grapes to really be a global success. Syrah combines a meaty core of ripe berry fruit with tones that range from herbal to peppery in a package that tends to be medium bodied with good acidity and softer tannins. With age the wines can gain lovely leathery and black olive notes that make them a great match for savory and gamy dishes.

Winemakers Notes

The 2005 Shiraz expresses oodles of spicy dark berry fruits, plums, cassis and earthy mint. On the palate, it’s a succulent thunderbolt of pure Shiraz, right down to the last gulp. Made with structure and grip, the vibrant, juicy length lingers with a clean “have another glass” finish. Drink now or hide in the cellar for 3 years.

This offers up lovely tones of boysenberry and blueberry with just the subtlest roasted edge that contributes to a bit of a jammy quality but the vanilla tones and a honied floral character offer some complexity. With a big sweet entry that promises more than it delivers on the ponderous mid-palate, this offers deep fruit but no finesse and the alcohol sticks out a bit. A bit obvious. 84pts

Has the slightly yellow look of an older wine. Tastes a little gamey to me, but not unpleasant. Enjoyable and just complex enough for me to enjoy it.

This aptly named wine smells of insect repellant and pestilence. Points for being interesting, but it didn't blow any of my whistles. Very alcoholic and a little fruity.
