Shingleback Shiraz Mclaren Vale 2006
Deep red. Ripe blackberry and strawberry primary aromas are overlaid with with blueberry, chocolate and hints of vanilla. Fine-grained American and French oak subtly frame the rich berry mid palate. A full-bodied wine that is seamlessly integrated from the first taste to the long, lingering finish.
The McLaren Vale region is located 45 minutes south of Adelaide, the capital city of South Australia. The area is bound to the south by the Sellick's Hill range, extends east to Clarendon, reaches to the north just beyond Reynella and is bordered on the west by the waters of the Gulf St. Vincent. First planted with vines in the 1830's, McLaren Vale is best known today for its internationally acclaimed rich, flavourful Shiraz.
very balanced, fruit and spice, smooth elegant finish with chocolate notes, not heavily oaked, very good value.
Lovely, high-acidity Shiraz with lots of red and black fruit. Much more acid than a typical fruit bomb type of Shiraz, which makes it a nice partner for food. Soft tannins. An easy drinker that I'd buy again (this bottle was a gift, though).
The 2006 Shingleback Shiraz is the kind of wine that makes one realize how easy it is to become a wino if one doesn't exert some serious self-control. I decanted this wine about an hour and a half before drinking, since I suspected it would need some time to really open up. Now, here I am not three hours later about to finish the bottle! This wine is big and deep and fruity and just downright delicious. It's a party for the whole palate that leaves a warm and fuzzy finish of fruity tannins after each sip.

Bright and generous, this is nicely focused to show off its cherry and spice flavors, picking up a savory note as the finish lingers. Drink now through 2013. 25,000 cases made. -HS
A brilliant magenta colour. Intense ripe strawberry and blackberry aromas are highlighted with dark chocolate, spice and vanilla. A rich, powerful strawberry mid-palate is elegantly framed with silky, fine-grained American and Frenchoak. A full-bodied wine with luscious fruit, soft rich tannins and a long, lingering finish.
