Shenandoah Vineyards Zinfandel Special Reserve 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

This lovely wine is a rich example of the our ongoing Zinfandel style. The wine is full bodied and only moderately tannic with beautiful structure and strong fruit. The flavors are complex, and the finish is long and satisfying. This wine is extremely versatile, light enough to accompany any lunch fare, yet a perfect companion to pastas, roasts, steaks and cheeses.

Juicy and appealingly rustic, with notes of loamy cherry, white pepper and cola. Drink now.

Shenandoah stands up to the pricier California Zinfandels beautifully, with a deliciously full body of juicy plum, blackberry and black cherry fruits. Hints of vanilla and creamy oak are seductively subtle and offset the heavy fruit nicely. Shenandoah is owned by the Sobon family, so trust in their superior Zin-making abilities and try a bottle of this fantastic bargain today. It just might become your favorite, as it did for me.

Shenandoah Zinfandel is one of my favorite wines, for a variety of reasons. It is made from organically-grown grapes in a winery that is overseen by the Sobon family, a famed Zinfandel-growing estate in California. It is consistently delicious, with bright, jammy fruit, hints of spice and vanilla, and a heavy, luscious body. And last but not least, I consistently recommend it because it is one of the best values in the store. I love pairing it with barbecue, and I've tried it with chocolate-based desserts with great results.

Spicy, with black pepper, rhubarb, strawberry and vanilla, ending with just a hint of cayenne. Perfect for barbecues and braised meats. A delicious value in California Zin, grab this while it's caliente!

You can't beat the price. It's distinctly Amador, with that taste of ripe, briary red and black berries growing on thorn bushes hidden in the mountain scrub. Throw in a chocolaty edge, and total dryness, and you've got a great barbecue wine.

Wake up die-hard Merlot fans and sample this lush, berry-packed full-bodied red. Nothing like its commercially successful knock-off white Zin, this is a powerful, yet beautifully smooth red - unwrap the chocolate and pour a glass! Produced by hometown boy Paul Sobon from his all organic vineyards.

From the makers of Sobon comes this delightful, easy-drinking Zin. Lighter in body than many, but with a great depth of flavor. Jammy black raspberry and currant flavors, highlighted by pepper and spicebox, with just a hint of smoky oak. Great with chicken wings!
