Shenandoah Special Reserve Zinfandel 2015

Member Review by Zuiko:

This 2011 is very ripe without being hot or over ripe. Nice fruit with soft tannins. Obviously late harvested at 14.5% Alc. Cocoa dominates but there is also black fruit. Has tartrate crystals, a good thing. Nice rich garnet color but not inky. My rating-- 91 UPDATE- There are bottles of this wine that are nothing like what I have described above. They are thin with odd flavors and have none of the tartrate crystals of earlier bottles. My rating for these-- 78. BUYER BEWARE!

Wonderful nose of ripe berry (not jammy, but ripe) with some pepper. Flavors of red berry, with some tartness and pepper. Decent acidity with noticeable tannin, though not chewy. The fruit is on the lighter side, without detracting from the flavors. Slightly imbalanced with the tartness, but the fruit is tasty.

Fantastic. Multiple aromas and flavors. Aside from the ripen cherries, you notice distinct cocoa. And very scent-y, almost floral like. Great value.

This is a pretty good Zin and I'm not a Zin fan. I'd say it's a mix of positive attributes of a Pinot and Zin that packs a punch of a Zin with the subtle nuances of a Pinot. It has hints of blackberry and so much more. For $8.99 they're just giving it away. This is easily a $19 bottle.

From the makers of Sobon comes this delightful, easy-drinking Zin. Lighter in body than many, but with a great depth of flavor. Jammy black raspberry and currant flavors, highlighted by pepper and spicebox, with just a hint of smoky oak. Great with chicken wings!

Here's a big, jammy mountain Zin, ripe in blackberry, cherry and mocha flavors, with a balance of acids and tannins that makes it clean and gulpable. It finishes a little sweet, and will be perfect with barbecue-sauced meats and poultry.

Here's a great value for a Sierra Foothills Zin, where you get some real mountain character. The sturdy tannins buck up wild berry flavors laced with coffee and herbs, and while the wine is bone dry, it finishes with ripe sweetness.

This lovely wine is a rich example of the "Amador" zinfandel style. The aromas are reminiscent of ripe blackberries, cherries, and cocoa. The wine is full-bodied and only moderately tannic, with beautiful structure and strong fruit. The perfect companion to roasts and steaks.

Wake up die-hard Merlot fans and sample this lush, berry-packed full-bodied red. Nothing like its commercially successful knock-off white Zin, this is a powerful, yet beautifully smooth red - unwrap the chocolate and pour a glass! Produced by hometown boy Paul Sobon from his all organic vineyards.

A rich example of the "Amador" zinfandel style; ripe blackberries, cherries, and cocoa. The finish is long and satisfying. Complexity and balance make this Zin an excellent value.

Juicy and appealingly rustic, with notes of loamy cherry, white pepper and cola. Drink now.
