Sheldrake Point Riesling Finger Lakes 2007

External Review:

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the September 2010 issue. Showing a touch of the petroleum character that sometimes shows in aged Riesling, this dry, slightly rigid wine is a bit lax in its display of varietal fruit. Instead, it smacks of grapefruit and chalk, and, if seemingly a bit older, it has neither developed nor likely to gain greater charm.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.

This finely poised riesling leads with a touch of fusel and peach blossom. On the palate the sweet peach flavors feel comforting and centered. It has the palate weight for spicy Asian fare like larb or green papaya salad.

This wine is firmly gripped by a combination of minerality and spice, with a distinct red-fruit scent. The flavors have a red berry accent, like red currant, the wine firm and satisfying. For oxtail pho.

Sprightly in the mouth, this wine has lemon verbena and citrus pith aromas that lead to orange and tropical fruits in the mouth, picking up spice on the finish. The evident sweetness will pair well with Asian foods.

Good focus, with a slatey edge to the apple and fig flavors. Good drive on the finish too. Drink now through 2009.
