Shafer Rentless Syrah 2005
The flavors and aromas are immense, round, mouthfilling and long-lived with a luscious blend of rich blackberry, black plums, meatiness from the Syrah and a dose of blueberry from the Petite Sirah. The tannins are ripe and long-lived, with a lengthy, pleasing finish. A heavyweight like Relentless complements similar concentrated flavors found in dishes such as Syrah-braised short ribs, smoked lamb with Relentless reduction, roast duck, as well as beef and game.
From a modest beginning of 1,000 cases in 1978, the winery has grown steadily until reaching its present size of 32,000 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sangiovese and Syrah. Today Shafer wines are available in major markets nationwide and in many foreign markets.
Awesome wine! Dark, inky, deep purple, great legs. Lots of black pepper and blackberries. Very concentrated and lots of kick. Delicious. I will buy it again.
Delicious. I put a little into an au poivre sauce tonight, and it was great... Only about half a glass... But, I guess I'm still the a$$hole who reduced relentless... Once I got it in the glass it did not disappoint. Great fruit flavors with that incredible spice and full body. Love it. Made for a truly memorable evening. Rich, dark fruit alongside floral and spicy notes. Would love to have a chance to drink again. My Rating: 94/100 For the Price: 92/100
Fantastic example of "New" World syrah, deep, deep, purple colour, mouth full of red/lilac fruits, taste stays forever. When I put the glass down I already long for the next sip. Still the best is yet to come, drink 2015 for ultimate pleasure.
This is a gift of a yummy wine. Smooth and yet the grapes burst in your mouth. SO well balanced and for its cost, be smart and by yourself a case! Aerate for at least 2 hours if you want fireworks finish.
Four and a half glasses
