Shafer Napa Valley Merlot 2007
From a modest beginning of 1,000 cases in 1978, the winery has grown steadily until reaching its present size of 32,000 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sangiovese and Syrah. Today Shafer wines are available in major markets nationwide and in many foreign markets.
Nose of dark cherry and some smoky, charred qualities. Just a hint of licorice. Powerful nose. On the palate, it's much lighter, exhibiting some pinot noir fruit. Some currant and light vanilla as well. Lots of red berries. It's a pretty merlot. - Tasted at Khoury's 6/2/10
