The last vintage of the low key favorite from Shafer's Elias Fernandez. The vineyard has been replaced with more Syrah, likely to boost the production of the heralded Relentless. Comprised of 92% Sangiovese and 8% Cabernet Sauvignon, Firebreak shows rich and fat aromas of smooth, sweet black fruits. The palate continues with the sweet berry flavors. Seamlessly smooth on the palate. The last Firebreak ever.

($42; 92% sangiovese and 8% cabernet franc) Dark red. Enticing aromas of cherry, redcurrant, dried flowers, fresh tobacco, licorice, mint and loamy earth. Silky and supple in the mouth, with high-toned floral lift to the sweet flavors of plum, cherry, cranberry and cedary oak. Lush, suave and fine-grained wine, finishing with fine tannins and sexy oak notes. Following this harvest, Shafer replanted its sangiovese vines to cabernet sauvignon, syrah and petite sirah.
