Shafer Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch 2012
Shafer Red Shoulder Ranch Chardonnay 2012 is 100% Chardonnay from Shafer's Red Shoulder Ranch in Carneros. This elegant single vineyard California white is aged 14 months in 75% new French oak barrels and 25% in stainless steel barrels and offers lively fruit character with excellent minerality and length. "The gorgeous, honeyed, citrus 2012 Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch appears to have backed off considerably on the oak. Medium to full-bodied with striking purity and texture as well as a delicious combination of tropical fruit, citrus and minerality, this beauty should drink well for 3-4 years."-Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (91 Points)
From a modest beginning of 1,000 cases in 1978, the winery has grown steadily until reaching its present size of 32,000 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, Sangiovese and Syrah. Today Shafer wines are available in major markets nationwide and in many foreign markets.

Pure, ripe, intense and elegant, offering a mix of green pear, apple, citrus and green fig, with with a long, lingering finish. Drink now.
Richly made, this offers juicy stone fruit such as peach alongside more unusual flavors of fennel and kiwi, a streak of minerality running throughout the more weighted layers. A fantastic food wine, it can be paired with plates of cheese and charcuterie, even foie gras where it’s legal.
The 2012 Chardonnay Red Shoulder Ranch was a smaller crop for Chardonnay than the 2013, and shows the mandarin orange characteristics with tropical fruit such as pineapple and subtle hints of peach and delicate background smoke. It’s medium to full-bodied, lively, and should drink well for another 3–4 years.
Bright light-medium yellow. Pungent aromas of mirabelle, orange blossom, white currant and subtle oak, lifted by a floral high note. Densely packed and firm, with bright acidity and a hint of minerality intensifying the peach and citrus flavors. Boasts excellent clarity and length: this may be even better in two years. This wine has changed 180 degrees in recent vintages, from opulent and very oaky to still quite dense but with more clarity and energy..
