What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemakers Notes

Winemaking Notes: This wine is a blend of 76% Chardonnay that was barrel fermented and aged, and 24% Auxerrois that was stainless steel tank fermented and aged. Both components went through malolactic and were stirred on the fine lees prior to blending in the spring. After blending a portion was returned to stainless steel tanks to soften the overall influence of the oak. Tasting Notes: Aromas of pear, apple, citrus, cinnamon and toast combine with a rich mouthfeel in this Chardonnay. Perhaps another producer in the big, wide world of wine has blended barrel-fermented Chardonnay (76 percent in a French and American cooperage mix that was 25 percent new) with a balance of tank fermented and aged Auxerrois, but Shady Lane's blend is our first encounter. Like the original 007 character, Auxerrois has been dubbed the grape of international intrigue.
