Shady Lane Cellars Chardonnay(2005)

Winemaking Notes: This wine is a blend of 76% Chardonnay that was barrel fermented and aged, and 24% Auxerrois that was stainless steel tank fermented and aged. Both components went through malolactic and were stirred on the fine lees prior to blending in the spring. After blending a portion was returned to stainless steel tanks to soften the overall influence of the oak. Perhaps another producer in the big, wide world of wine has blended barrel-fermented Chardonnay (76 percent in a French and American cooperage mix that was 25 percent new) with a balance of tank fermented and aged Auxerrois, but Shady Lane's blend is our first encounter. Like the original 007 character, Auxerrois has been dubbed the grape of international intrigue.
