Sfida means "challenge" in Italian (I got that off the back label). I challenge you to find a tastier, more interesting wine at this price. Produced for importer Peter Matt by the Cantina del Locorotondo (which I think means "house of the crazy fat man"), this is a luscious, full-figured blend of fey southern Italian grape varieties that are listed in large letters on the front label, no doubt to satisfy Americans' fanatical desire to know: WHAT (40%) GRAPES (30%) ARE IN IT? (30%). A thoroughly enjoyable fusion of rustic Italian, beguiling Rhône and fruit-driven California Zinfandel aromas and flavors. If you've read this far, the answer is: Negroamaro, Primitivo and Aglianico.
A fun, inviting, fruit-forward blend of Primitivo (60%), Sangiovese (20%), and Cabernet Sauvignon (20%). Raspberry and cherry flavors are followed by a touch of black pepper; would pair well with just about any spicy Italian fare.
From the Italian for "challenge," Sfida is sure to intrigue. A combination of 70% Primitivo and 30% Negroamaro makes a hearty red with great structure, intense fruit and spice flavors, and supple tannins. Complements a range of hearty dishes, including beef stew, sausages and pasta with meat sauce.
