Seven Hills Winery Riesling Columbia Valley 2009
"We continue our very successful off-dry style with its light sweetness and crisp clean finish. The two very old sites in the Yakima Valley add depth and complexity, while the cooler northern site lends freshness and minerality. This is a graceful, balanced Riesling of low alcohol and light straw color. It opens with honeysuckle, guanabana, green apple and poached pear flavors and aromas, on a slightly sweet palate that follows through to a fresh, clean finish. Riesling ages well, but we recommend enjoying it within two years of elease. This is a very versatile style suitable for a wide variety of foods and occasions." Winemaker's Notes.

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the September 2010 issue. On the positive side of its ledger, this very slightly sweet Riesling counts a good balance and a nice bit of fresh and flowery fruit. Less likeable, however, are its nagging impressions of match-stick and a mildly chemical bite, and we are not wholly certain that age will remedy its distractions.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
