Seven Hills Winery Oregon Pinot Gris 2013

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Clean and fresh on the nose with some lightly smoky, almost flinty, qualities over a core of rather sweet apple fruit. Soft in the mouth and rather broad, with mouth-filling apple flavors and a nice little spice note that turns a bit bitter on the mid-palate. Classic Oregon Pinot Gris, with a touch of mineral and a hint of RS. 88pts

This is quite intense on the nose with a golden toned, fruit driven nose that is edged in candle wax and mineral tones. The mouthfeel is rich, with lots of ripe orchard fruits and fine acids. It’s a touch milky on the mid-palate with a light creamy, vanilla tone to the fruit that leads to a long, zesty finish with hints of toast, honey and hazelnut. A lovely wine that should improve for a year or two and be at it’s best from 2010 to 2012 88pts

100% hand-picked Pinot Gris shows a brilliant, medium straw color opening to a complex and full aroma and palate; vanillin, freshly cracked hazelnut , honeysuckle blossom, ripe citrus and green apple contrast with a refined sur lies character. Finished dry, intense ripe fruit balances harmoniously with generous acidity and crispness. A subtle hint of new French oak character adds a grace note - a perfect match with fresh seafood, while refreshing on its own.
