Seven Hills Ciel du Cheval Vintage Red 2011

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

This shows impressive intensity on the nose with layers of crushed rock, black pepper, and pencil shavings under huge red and black currant fruit all topped with vanilla, wood spice. The classic iron fist in the velvet glove, this shows plenty of weight and tannic driven the palate, with bright acids supporting fabulous herb inflected red currant, flavors with just a hint of nutty oak, that flows onto a moderately long finish. While the oak comes off as a bit on the sweet side this is just chock a block with ripe red plum, red berry, and tart cranberry fruit that lingers on the long finish. Quite a powerful wine in this lineup. 94pts
