Seresin Sauvignon Blanc Marlborough Reserve 2010

Winemaker's Notes:

Sourced from the estate’s Home Vineyard, 40% of the 2010 Reserve Sauvignon Blanc was naturally fermented in old French oak barriques. It presents intense aromas of fresh cut grass, sage and lemon peel with nuances of gooseberries and chalk dust. The full bodied palate is generously fruited with a great line of up-lifting acidity and a long herbal finish. Drink this one now to 2014+. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

Michael Seresin was born in Wellington, New Zealand, but left in the 1960s, when sheep, not grapevines, covered the Wairau Plains. He settled in Italy, where he was captivated by Italian food and wine culture, and began his career as a cinematographer. Over time Michael's interest in wine developed into a passion. In the early 1990s after investigating opportunities to start a winery in Italy, he became aware of the quality wines starting to emerge from his homeland. After visiting Marlborough, and falling in love with the Marlborough Sounds, Michael decided to purchase a home there, followed by the purchase of some land in the Wairau Valley, which became Seresin's Home vineyard. Planting of vines began immediately, followed by the importation and planting of Tuscan olive varieties and significant plantings of natives. Seresin's first vintage was in 1996. In 2000 the Tatou vineyard was purchased, a year later land in the Omaka valley was aquired for development into our Raupo Creek vineyard. Read less

Smells sweet and creamy with floral top notes to the tropical notes of cooked guava accented with a touch of herb. The entry shows good richness and balance, but the fruit drops off on the mid-palate of this soft, broad wine. There’s a touch of vanilla over the passion fruit and grapefruit tones that follow through on the modest finish. 86pts
