Seresin Pinot Gris Marlborough 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Slightly sulphury floral and hoppy, with reticent notes of quince paste, with a touch of chalk and a hint of salt. Round in the mouth and a touch soft with the alcohol showing a bit. A spicy yet clean style of PG with a touch of green herbal character. A bit dusty and lean on the finish that has more of that almost salty, mineral character. Could use more depth but for a light sipper this works. A natural match for shellfish. 86pts

Michael Seresin was born in Wellington, New Zealand, but left in the 1960s, when sheep, not grapevines, covered the Wairau Plains. He settled in Italy, where he was captivated by Italian food and wine culture, and began his career as a cinematographer. Over time Michael's interest in wine developed into a passion. In the early 1990s after investigating opportunities to start a winery in Italy, he became aware of the quality wines starting to emerge from his homeland. After visiting Marlborough, and falling in love with the Marlborough Sounds, Michael decided to purchase a home there, followed by the purchase of some land in the Wairau Valley, which became Seresin's Home vineyard. Planting of vines began immediately, followed by the importation and planting of Tuscan olive varieties and significant plantings of natives. Seresin's first vintage was in 1996. In 2000 the Tatou vineyard was purchased, a year later land in the Omaka valley was aquired for development into our Raupo Creek vineyard. Read less

Earthy nose thats rich and very complex. Hints of peach break through. Oily and luxurious in the mouth with a dry, oaky finish with plenty of spice. A very powerful complex pinot grigio.
