Sometimes you just have to go with your gut. Trust your instincts. A few years ago, Mark Couchman was faced with a dilemma while deciding which varietals to plant in his Los Alamos Vineyard in Santa Barbara County. Given the cool climate and the success that both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay had shown in this vineyard, extending these plantings would be a reasonable and sound business decision. However, Mark had the strong feeling that this site would produce Pinot Grigio grapes of exceptional quality and character, even though all of his colleagues scoffed at the very idea. Mark planted Pinot Grigio at Los Alamos Vineyard as well as Arroyo Loma Vineyard further north in Monterey County. The result, the 2005 Serenity Pinot Grigio, looks, well?visionary.    (hide)
