Sequoia Grove Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2005
This is a dark big deeply flavored Cabernet whose tannic structure strongly suggests mid- to long-term aging. Bone dry it has flashy flavors of black currants dark chocolate and cedar. Very fine. Best 20102015 if not longer in a proper cellar. 93 points 2009 Wine Enthusiast Buying Guide.
There’s most definitely something special about life in the Grove. Is it the towering Sequoia trees that define the estate and inspired the name? Is it the atmosphere of unassuming sophistication? Is it our unique combination of award-winning wines (led by our signature Cabernet) created with an artisan spirit? It’s all of the above—and more. And it’s right here, waiting to be discovered.
Sequoia Grove's 2005 Cab combines fruit from all over the Napa Valley, from St. Helena to the north all the way to the Atlas Peak hills in the southeast. The resulting wine is dark and concentrated, with a sweet and spicy bouquet of blackberries and currants kicked up a notch with peppery-cedary spice. The nose follows through onto the palate, which is lush and full. This is a great meat and potatoes wine or, for a more modern take, try it with domestic lamb with a cherry pan sauce.
smooth blackberry goodness. some asian spice which is always nice. perfectly balanced with some cloudy, spicy oak. a hint of brussels sprouts on the back end which reminds me of a Chinon. would have gotten a perfect rating if it was $10 cheaper.
My wife loves this wine!!! This wine has a nice nose that includes cedar, and dark berries. There is a good amount of fruit that is complemented by tart tannins. That is pleasantly bitter on the finish.
Excellent wine with a T-bone. Good value at $24.00. Well balanced and ready to drink right now.
Dark chocolate covered raspberries, deep oak, tar leather and tannin in this one. There's even a bit of herb.
Sweet and grainy nose. Grand and dark in the mouth with dark chocolate and woody notes backed by a nicely structured acidity that rounds everything out.
I enjoyed this wine although it is still a little young and tannic for my tastes. Good QPR especially considering the location. very concentrated. strong cassis and pepper with a nice bit of cedar creeping in. will buy another and hold it for a few years.

Pours an opaque, dark, inky red-black, with perfumed nose showing loads of ripe berry fruit, and a hint of cedar and spice. Flavors are deep, dense and impressively layered. Smooth yet tannic finish promises loads of cellar time. Excellantly structured wine, with amazing complexity.
Wine Tasting NotesDeep garnet in color with aromas of sweet currants, dark chocolate, intense blackberry, clove, black pepper and a sprinkling of Rutherford dust. Full-bodied with firm, yet supple tannins and well-integrated acid. Grapes come from two sources, from vineyards managed by our well regarded growers in the Napa Valley and some from our own estate vineyards in Rutherford.
