Sepp Moser Gruner Veltliner Sepp 2012
A yellow green color with aromas of fresh apple andcitrus, this crowd pleasing, mediumbodied white finishes with pleasing notes of minerals and spice. The vineyards are planted on deep layers of rich limestone and loess soils. After destemming and gentle crushing the must fermented in stainless steel.
Light and simple with a light body and short finish. I think i get the minerality described in the finish. Not a lot of aromatics or fruit on nose or palate. A little pricey for 20$ given that. Decent and would buy again i guess, but i liked the other GV i tasted tonight.
Terroir, or the sense that a good wine tastes like the place it was grown, expresses itself in the form of earthy, mineral qualities rather than fruits or tannins—like the difference between good water and bad water. In this case, the mineral taste is so much stronger than all the other flavors, it's difficult to tell whether SEPP is a sophisticated or just a little off.
Bright, crisp, pale yellow. Wonderful compliment to a fish dinner. looking for a few more bottles.
External Reviews for Sepp Moser Gruner Veltliner Sepp
In 1987 Sepp Moser founded his wine-growing estate at the advanced age of 56. Named "Winemaker of the Year" 1994, in a relatively short period of time he has brought the Sepp Moser estate to where it is now regrded as one of Austria’s best. Under the direction of Niki Moser, Sepp’s son the vineyards were all converted to biodynamic farming. This Gruner Veltliner is from Kremstal. De-stemming, crushing and pressing are done before maceration and then fermentation and maturation take place in stainless steel. It’s a classic Gruner with lovely peppery freshness and rich textural elements to the fruit. There's bright minerality and fresh acidity on the palate. Pure, refined and expressive.
