Señorio de Sarria Navarra Crianza 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

*Voted the Best Red Crianza at the 2016 Awards for the Best Wines of Navarra* This delicious and great value for money Narrara Crianza is produced by Bodega de Sarria. This beautiful estate is located high in the hills above Puenta la Reina, near Pamplona, and was one of the pioneers of quality winemaking in Navarra having been founded in 1953. Sarria own over 210 hectares of vineyards on mainly south facing slopes at 400-500m altitude, planted primarily with Tempranillo, Graciano (the most extensive plantings of the variety in Spain), Garnacha, Cabernet, Merlot, Mazuelo and Chardonnay. The complex and spicy Crianza is produced with grapes from Sarria's own vineyards as well as from other vineyards whose viticulture is controlled and monitored by Sarria. The Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Graciano grapes are vinified independently. After fermentation the wine is decanted and spends one year in American oak cask, before being kept for several additional months in the winery before release to ensure this can be enjoyed straight away. This is a complex and spicy wine, a great alternative to Rioja. The nose has a vibrant berry fruit aroma offset with spicy cherry, balsamic and cedar notes. The palate is full of spicy black fruits and ripe strawberry notes along with some tannin structure and good weight. This would be ideal with hearty dishes such as roast meats, stews and casseroles. Enjoyable on release and over the next few years. "Bramble and hedgerow nose followed by a lively, strawberry-fruited palate. Supple and smooth, with a grip of tannin." Decanter magazine (2010 vintage)
