Senejac Haut-Medoc 2012

Winemaker's Notes:

Always shows well at an early age. Nicely ripe with suave tannins. The aromas at the start are full of bright red berries and hints of flowers. One of the best values in the Haut-Medoc.

Looking for a wine that reflects Bordeaux to a tee, this is a good exemplar; the strong - if I may be so bold - manly flavours of kirsch, cassis liqueur and medium body coffee are all here. The nose is forward and the entry is full of Cabernet power with a finish that is long and invigorating. May age a few years yet. 89 points.

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/32795 for £10.Chateau Senejac [www.chateau-senejac.com] is located near the village of La Pian-Medoc about 10 miles north of the city of Bordeaux and has a history going back centuries..It is a large estate with 39 hectares under vine that was bought by the Cordier family, who also own Chateau Talbot in St Julien, in 1999.The wine consists of 48% cabernet sauvignon,37% merlot,11% cabernet franc and 4% petit verdot.,and spends 18 months in oak barrels.I started my bottle at the weekend with a meal of pork chops and I enjoyed it.My overiding impresion is of fresh blackcurrant and licorice style fruit. and mellow tanins. It is a lovely wine and I am not the only one who thinks so.The well known wine critic Robert Parker gave it 85 of his points,it won a silver medal at the 2011 Wine Challenge, and in 2003 the Chateau was made a Cru Bourgeois Superior.[although they have not mentioned this on the bottle].

Deep ruby red, nose of red fruits, some cassis and a touch of leather. Medium bodied with some floral component. Very nice as an everyday wine.

decanted 3 hours, very little sediment. lightly smoky bramble fruit, wet pine and blueberries on the nose, medium body, ripe black cherries, earth and chocolate on the palette with elegant, long-lasting finish of cherry and orange peel with subtle hints of oak and smoke. Very delicious wine and the tannins would smooth out beautifully in the next few years.

I'll go along with the 90 score. This wine was quite enjoyable.

I found an over looked bottle and thought that it would be way beyond its best. It was absolutely fine. Full of fruit, nicely balanced and good length. Not much tannin left but very well integrated. Not at all over the top. For a minor wine it was excellent.

47.5% cabernet sauvignon, 43% merlot, 7.5% cabernet franc, and 2% petit verdot. Well-integrated floral notes on the nose are accompanied by ripe red fruit and baking spices. The palate is soft and silky, with flavors of cassis and a hint of blueberry... Roland Hankerson. A Bordeaux Blend wine from Bordeaux in France. 2011 Senejac 750ml

Fresh and open-knit, with friendly notes of raspberry and cherry preserves laced with hints of red licorice and toasted vanilla. Solid and direct, kept honest by just enough grip. Drink now through 2014.

Another sleeper of the vintage, Senejac’s 2010 (a blend of 48% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc with a touch of Petit Verdot) exhibits wonderful intensity, an opaque purple color, and opulent blackberry and blueberry fruit along with hints of charcoal, white chocolate and graphite. This lush, heady, rich wine is a considerable over-achiever from this property in the northern Medoc that can be drunk over the next 6–8 years.

This chateau is under the same ownership as Saint-Julien’s Château Talbot. The wine is firm, fruity, rich and concentrated, showing all the best qualities of 2010. There is a complex array of black fruits which are sustained by the firm, solid tannins. Age for at least 6–7 years.
