Sella & Mosca Cannonau di Sardegna Riserva Sardinia 2009

Winemaker's Notes:

The initial ruby red gradually shades into warmer, less intense shades as the wine ages. The faintly tousled woodland fragrances of the wine's first year mature with ageing into a complex, elegant bouquet proffering distinct whiffs of violets that fuse well with the tertiary notes of spiciness contributed by cask conditioning. Palate is warm, dried and beautifully poised, with a restrained background note of plums and an aristocratic hint of oak. Beautifully complements any red meat dish and makes a perfect partner for game.

Had this with lunch the other day at Tronino's @ Home. Not a bad bottle, spicy and unripe berry, but with rounded mouth. Took a long time to open up a bit. Might do well with a bit more age?

Though Cannonau from Sardinia has recently become the new hot “wonder grape” in the wine and health world, the Sella & Mosca Cannonau has been a Premier favorite for a medium-bodied, easy-drinking pizza wine for years. Bright cherry and red currant are the dominant fruits. Great acidity lends itself to pairing with anything tomato-based.

An attractive southern red, mixing roasted plum, grilled fig, tobacco and dried sage notes. Turns a touch dry on the finish. Drink now.
