What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

Winemakers Notes

In 1893, newlyweds Eduardo and Angela Seghesio purchased their new home in Alexander Valley. As winemaker for the most prominent winery in Sonoma County, Eduardo recognised great vineyard potential surrounding the modest home. In 1895, he planted the “Home Ranch” and began a lineage of four generations of grape growers in Sonoma County. This vineyard, in addition to producing quintessential Zinfandel, has long been the source for subsequent plantings of Seghesio Zinfandel. Excellent, truly - huge black cherry flavor - smooth as silk - it deserves the #10 spot for certain! One of my favorite Zins to date and the price, it cannot be beat! Do not miss this one!

Very similar to the standard seghesio 2007. Just slightly better--a few more flavors. (Of course, the seghesio 2007 is one of my all-time favorite wines, so saying this one is better is impressive to me).
