Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

This was rated #10 of the top 100 wines of 2008 by 'winedictator' (93 pts) .Rasberries and plums and light vanilla and strawberry candy. Complex , supple wine, starts with warm deep berry flavours, followed by a slightly alcholic burst of cherry/plum fruit and moderate tannins that lightly pluck at your cheeks. Finishes niicely with a faint peppery spice note that lingers. Keeps pace with zinfandels twice the price.

I wish I loved this as much as some of the other reviewers but although definitely worth a drink it is a bit too light in my opinion compared to my favorite zines. That said I will say this is leaps and bounds better than the very ordinary 2006.

Ruby red and full bodied. Luxurious aromas of black currant and florist shop with a hint of chalk dust and a bit of toasty oak. On the palette, black currant persists followed with cinnamon gram cracker and finishes with raisin. Medium finish and surprisingly fresh.

Color: deep purple plum, not cloudy, Nose: toasty, vanilla, Taste: a little bit of everything, plum flavors, oak, a little pepper/spice, light tannins, light acidity, nice finish, fruit stays with you.
Lamarr: A- 92 (nice, well balanced, Plungerhead had too much oak to it, this is very pleasant, worth the extra dollars)
Hector: A 95 (still likes Plungerhead, enjoyed the oakiness, would like to try the Plungerhead again for a comparison)

I really like this zin. It is not as big and bold as some of the others I like but it is a great zin for every occasion. Only a slight oak taste, deep colored, and berry nose and taste.

Very good Zinfandel at this price. Rich, deep deep fruit. Black currant, smooth with sweet ripe fruit and easy finish. Hint of oak and spiced vanilla bean pods.

Seghesio makes the best reasonably priced Zins on the market. The 2007 was rated 93 by Wins Spectator - 10th best wine out of the top 100. This is my choise for steak, lamb, and good cheese.

Hand of Snooth

Ruby colored, all strawberry-blackberry preserves on the nose. A little oak, a hint of spice, balanced jammy sweetness, maybe even some mocha in there. Easy drinking, sky-high QPR at $20. Would pair well with food but great alone. A really fantastic Zin, worth having even if (like myself) you're not typically a Zinfandel fan.

This wine was recommended to me by my local wine merchant for Thanksgiving.
It really went great with the turkey but I can also see the wine going well with Steak and roasted meat in general. 2008: 93 Points WS, 24$.

It's a great wine. I first tried it when I was out on business in Colorado. I had to get more, but by the time I got home, the Spectator score had been published, jacking up the price on the bottle. But it's worth it! Huge wine with a nice finish.

Dark red, almost purple in the glass. The nose, a little hot, shows spicy red fruit , lead pencil, cedar and with a little more time the red fruit turns to raspberry jam... but one of the best you've ever smelled. On the palate you taste sweet wild berries, cherry cough syrup and oak. Not a lot of varietal character from this glass but great anyway. Long sweet red berry finish. (Gave it an hour opened in bottle before drinking.)

It's been a bit too long to provide accurate tasting notes - there's a bottle in the apartment that I'm saving for a worthwhile occasion - but this is a big, bold, rich zinfandel that doesn't disappoint.

A good zinfandel at its price point. Not as good as the 93 pts would suggest. A bit out of balance leaning toward being a little overly acidic and tannic. Time might take care of that
