awesome. nothing wrong with it except for a closed nose...
As a rule, one does not find Zinfandel wines of depth, structure and character at this (or any other) price point. Many are crude and alcoholic. This number is the exception; expect flavors of Himalayan blackberry, raspberry and plum with a firm, long-lasting and satisfying finish. There is power, good concentration and reasonable balance for such high alcohol content. Beautiful raspberry cordial colors. A workhorse California grape with aristocratic pretenses. Excellent value!
This is such a great, deep but not too heavy zinfandel with refreshing fruit, spice, with firm tannins and intoxicatingly good.
Killer for burgers. Had some nice and surprising depth on that finish.
I Love Seghesio!
This broad-shouldered young Zin was fairly unexpressive when first opened, showing black licorice and bitter chocolate or espresso character, but with food and airing, opened up nicely. Serious depth in the earthy dark cherry and berry fruit, with a nice dose of black pepper, vanilla, and spice. As always, full-bodied and chewy in texture. A tad rough at this stage, should be great in another year or so. Well-priced for a Zin of this quality, and not all that far behind the great Seghesio single-vineyard Zins costing nearly twice as much.
Seghesio Zinfandel Old Wine 2004 - simply great ! Robust, lots of berry, lots of character. I really enjoyed this. Should develop well for another 2-3 years.

In 1895, the Seghesio family came to Sonoma and planted their first Zinfandel vines. This Sonoma Zinfandel is a collage of fruit from four estate-owned vineyards and exhibits briar, spice, and rich berry character.
Wine Tasting NotesOld Vine Zinfandel is created from a composite of our top Old Vine lots. The synergic consortium of farming and winemaking coalesce to produce exceptional fruit intensity and purity of flavor with stylistic preference, therefore creating a wine whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The Old Vine Zin is deliciously dark-fruited and savory-spiced with a kaleidoscope of flavor tones redolent of raspberries, ripe cherries, and black currants that are delightfully varietal in nature. These attractive qualities epitomize Old Vine Zin's distinctive "of the earth" briary/clove spice infusion with a richness that transcends time. Salute!
