Great soft ages to perfection (2006). Soft tannins, Current, plum, black cherry. Strong finish. A wine you will not soon forget, and other Vintners can only dream about creating. Great!

A classic Segehsio Zin: lush, smooth, fruity, long finish.

A favorite of all red wine drinkers at our gathering. It was Greg's preferred wine. Nice structure with ample tannins, flavors come through nicely.

It just wouldn't be summer without a good Zinfandel to accompany barbequed beef. The Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel 2005 is the under-$20 Zin I've been pining for over the last few months. This is a terrific wine, with a big, Zinny nose, a full-bodied, dark brambly fruit palate, and a peppery but smooth finish with no unpleasant heat despite its 15.2 percent alcohol content. If you're looking for a satisfying Zin at a reasonable price, this will be a tough one to beat. Here's a shopping tip: Seghesio's Zins are all similarly labeled, but with different colored capsules. The Sonoma designation's capsule is dark blue. Chances are you wouldn't be the least bit disappointed if you ended up with a Seghesio wine that had a different color of capsule, but you'd be surprised at the checkout counter.

Incomplete finish, but overall good wine. I would pair this with food always.

Wine Tasting NotesOld Vine Zinfandel is created from a composite of our top Old Vine lots. The synergic consortium of farming and winemaking coalesce to produce exceptional fruit intensity and purity of flavor with stylistic preference, therefore creating a wine whose whole is greater than the sum of its parts. The Old Vine Zin is deliciously dark-fruited and savory-spiced with a kaleidoscope of flavor tones redolent of raspberries, ripe cherries, and black currants that are delightfully varietal in nature. These attractive qualities epitomize Old Vine Zin's distinctive "of the earth" briary/clove spice infusion with a richness that transcends time. Salute!

Jam-packed with ripe cherry and boysenberry fruit thats backed up with juicy, zesty flavors and notes of spice, star anise and toasty oak. Wine Spectators selection for Smart Buys (June 07) 90 Points! Detailed Wine Information Alcohol: 15.2% Appellation: Sonoma Fermentation: 25% punch-down fermentation, 25% rotary-tank, and 25% pump-over fermentation; maceration time of ten days Harvest Date: Hand-harvested September 8th though October 11th, 2005 Harvest Notes: Aggressive hand canopy management was maintained; both a green harvest and veraison thinning were performed to ensure even ripening and to keep crop loads at or below four tons per acre. Release Date: September 01, 2006 Vineyard Notes: Estate vineyards- Home Ranch, River Road, Lone Oak, and San Lorenzo vineyards in Alexander Valley. cortina Ranch in Dry Creek Valley. Vintage Notes: 2005 was one of the coolest and longest growing seasons in recent memory. Moderate weather from July to Mid-September (Temperatures seldom eclipsed 80 degrees) created ideal ripening conditions that allowed the fruit to mature slowly and evenly. Winemakers Notes: Cooler temperatures preserved zinfandels juicy acidity and allowed for the grape tannins to mature on the vine while infusing scents of cracked black pepper and further heightening zins briary, spicy essence.

In 1895, the Seghesio family came to Sonoma and planted their first Zinfandel vines. This Sonoma Zinfandel is a collage of fruit from four estate-owned vineyards and exhibits briar, spice, and rich berry character.
