User Reviews for Seghesio Family Vineyards Zinfandel Alexander Valley Home Ranch
Add your reviewThe 2009 vintage doesn't match up well with 2008. This wine is too acidic and thus the tannins are not as balanced. The fruit aroma and flavor are reminiscent of the 2008 vintage, but pale in comparison. I'm not convinced that aging will bring this wine up to the 2008 quality. Disappointing, but I'll be cracking open a bottle of their Ranch Zinfandel soon, and I expect a much better experience.
Just had this wine at a tasting and it was flying out of the store. Much better than the 08 and seemed smoother than the 07 in a head-to-head today. Round with no harsh notes.

Our family roots are firmly planted in Zinfandel as our Great-Grandfather, Edoardo Seghesio, first planted Zinfandel on our Alexander Valley Home Ranch in 1895. Today, we share his passion as we farm over 400 acres of estate Zinfandel in the worlds best growing regions for the grape --- Alexander and Dry Creek Valleys. This wine combines sites that have produced Zinfandel for over a century with newer sites that utilize proprietary clones and the most advanced viticultural practices.

Year after year Seghesio produces world class Zinfandel's and their Old Vine Zinfandel is always among the greatest representations.
The Seghesio Home Ranch Vineyard dates back to 1895 when Edoardo Seghesio chose the western bench of Alexander Valley as his stake in the New World and planted his first vineyard to Zinfandel. The low-yielding old vines produce fruit of exceptional quality. Barrel aged 11 months in French and American oak this 2009 shows incredible richness and concentration. The Wine Spectator scored it 95 points saying "A Zinfandel that has it all—rich, ripe flavors, good structure and acidity, and lots of personality. Offers aromas of cherry pie and licorice that lead to complex flavors of huckleberry, toasty vanilla and smoky cracked pepper. Drink now through 2017." Extremely Limited!!

Winemaker's Notes:
In 1893, newlyweds Edoardo and Angela Seghesio purchased their first home in Alexander Valley. As winemaker for the most prominent winery in Sonoma County, Edoardo recognized great vineyard potential surrounding the modest home. In 1895, he planted the “Home Ranch” vineyard and began our family‟s lineage of Sharing Uncommon Ground.
