Edoardo Seghesio first worked with Sangiovese in the late 1800s during his time as winemaker at an Italian Swiss colony. His Sangiovese plantings on the Home Ranch vineyard are the oldest in America, dating back to 1910. They are also the source of four unique clones for Seghesio’s subsequent plantings of the varietal. Although Sangiovese typically grows vigorously, the low yielding, shallow soils of the Home Ranch Vineyard, combined with the small berries of the four clones used, result in wines of intense varietal character. This Sangiovese shows a lovely garnet colour with perfumes of dried violets and Sangiovese's minerally, earthy tones. Notes of cherry fruit augmented with blackberries and blueberries on the palate are supported by fine tannins and a long, elegant finish.
