Well balanced, refined fruit dominated by cherry, long finish, silky. Wonderful with roasted meats and poultry. Medium to full-bodied. This is the kind of Zin I would expect from the Rockpile AVA... superior to other Rockpile Zin's I have tasted. Aging potential to 2014 - 15.

Winemaker's Notes:

2006 Seghesio Zinfandel Rockpile California WineWith our familys first planting of Zinfandel in SonomaCounty in 1895, we began to seek out vineyards whichshowcase Sonoma as the worlds premier appellationfor zinfandel. Rockpile, a narrow ridge some 1200 feetabove Dry Creek Valley, is just one of those areas.Steep, well-drained hillsides with shallow, rocky topsoilprovide for less vigorous vines, smaller berries andintensely flavored zinfandel.Brambly, spicy scentsMinerally mountaintop shale earth tonesSpicy cherry, blackberry flavors buffeted by dried herbsWarm breezes induced a plumy qualitySweet, polished tannins with juicy acidityClove and anise spices extracted from oak agingRockpile style lustrous, explosive ripe fruitFull-bodied and decadent -- Ted Seghesio winemaker This is a California Wine.
