With over a century of winemaking experience in Sonoma, Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery focuses on crafting small lots of super-premium wines from the great growing regions of Sonoma County, becoming one of California’s most highly praised and awarded wineries for its Bordeaux and Burgundian varietals. With the spotlight on single vineyards and specific sub-appellations such as Sonoma Valley, Alexander Valley, Carneros and Russian River Valley, Sebastiani produces wine under the Sonoma County, Appellation Selection and Proprietary Selection designations. Founded in 1904 by Samuele Sebastiani, the winery is best known for its Cherryblock Cabernet Sauvignon, one of Sonoma County’s most coveted wines. The winery is located just blocks from Sonoma’s historic downtown plaza and offers historical tours as well as extensive picnic grounds and hospitality venues. Sebastiani is Sonoma’s only continuously-operated, family-owned, century-old winery. In today’s era of mergers and consolidation, it is particularly proud of its family heritage. In 2001, case production was significantly reduced to 100,000 cases per year: producing only one brand, Sebastiani, exclusively from the great winegrowing regions of Sonoma County. The fermentation cellars were rebuilt from the ground up, utilizing state of the art equipment which allows for gentle handling of fruit and must and fermentation of small lots of wine from specific vineyards and vineyard blocks. The resulting wines are receiving unprecedented critical acclaim and are in high demand. Growing production incrementally to meet demand without sacrificing quality, the winery’s current production is 300,000 cases a year. Sebastiani’s most famous wine, the Cherryblock Cabernet Sauvignon, is complemented by the highly acclaimed blended red wine Secolo, the limited production Appellation Selection wines and a line of Sonoma County varietals which offer extremely high quality and exceptional value. Wonderful core of pure, rich, mint-laced blackberry and black cherry fruit is sharply focused, rich and concentrated, offering a sense of elegance and finesse. Finishes with integrated tannins and a touch of mocha-laced oak. Drink now through 2008.

Solidly in the long Sebastiani tradition, a rich, well-crafted Cab. Many wines that cost $25 and more are not as good. Dry and full-bodied, with ripe blackcurrant flavors and complex, easy tannins, this is a first-rate wine and it is delicious.

California Cabs of this quality at this price are few and far between. This is smooth, ripe and spicy, with an elegant band of currant, herb, sage and spice nuances that hang on and tannins that are soft and fleshy. An exceptional value.

Has aromas of oak, black cherry, black olive and sandalwood. The flavor is reminiscent of ripe black cherries with currants. It finishes smooth with spicy oak and blueberry.

A subdued, rich and chewy youngster, full-bodied, offering currant, blackberry, cedar, anise and graphite, ending with chewy tannins. Drink now through 2016. Tasted twice, with consistent notes.

The tight tannins are wrapped around supple plum and cherry-laced fruit, making this easy to enjoy now, with modest complexity. Drink now through 2010.
