Big sour cherry and oak spice on the nose. Ink, kirsch and light hints of tomato. On the palate, it's bold and dry. Currant, herb, spice and oak vanilla. Creme de cassis liquer. Feels thick in the mouth and is big and lush. Great for steak. Oaky finish. 6/2/12

In keeping with previous vintages, our 2009 Sonoma County Merlot offers the pure, ripe (not overripe) fruit of California with the restraint and balance of a fine Pomerol. The nose begins with dried herbs, black tea and cherries, and finishes with lightly-toasted oak, coconut and toffee. The flavors are full, forward and rich. While it drinks well now, it will continue to improve over the next few years. ~ Mark R. Sebastiani Merlot has all the signature attributes of solid Merlot including black tea, dried herbs, black cherries and wild berries. It is ripe without being over-ripe. The new oak barrels add notes of espresso and mocha to the nose plus sweet vanilla to the palate.

Winemaker's Notes:

Dark Ruby in color with aromas of bourbon soaked cherries, earl grey tea, and candied orange peel, our 2009 Napa Merlot has flavors of fresh Bing cherries, cinnamon tea, dried strawberries, and soft French oak with subtle hints of vanilla and rhubarb.
