What to Expect

Merlot has gotten a bad rap as of late but there is no denying the wine's appeal. Packed with deep, dark berry fruit and nuanced hints of cocoa, herb and earth with a soft structure. Its velvety texture makes Merlot instantly appealing and an obvious alternative to similar, more tannic Bordeaux varieties.

Winemakers Notes

The grapes were harvested in the third week of September at optimal ripeness of sugar and tannins with concentrated fruit flavors. Winemaking followed classic Bordeaux methods. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in french oak barrels (45% new oak) for 18 months before bottling in June 2003.

The grapes were harvested the first three weeks of September at optimal ripeness of sugar (24.5° Brix) and acidity (6.3 TA) and with concentrated fruit flavors. Winemaking followed classic Bordeaux methods. Following fermentation, the wine was aged in French oak barrels (45% new oak) for 18 months before bottling on June 2003. The 2001 Merlot offers fresh fruit and floral aromas of cherries, violets, truffles and spice. Integrated and structured with a "medium body", it will continue to age well for years. Following release on June 1, 2004, the 2001 Merlot is available by direct mail order and at selected wine shops and restaurants. Production: Limited to 500 cases of 750 ml bottles. Tasting Note
