Screaming Eagle Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Performing much better than it did last year, the 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Merlot; 680 cases produced) also possesses extraordinary intensity. Fragrant aromas of loamy soil interwoven with classic creme de cassis, incense and licorice are followed by a big, full-bodied, dense, rich, long, slightly more masculine wine than the 2007 with more prominent tannins than in the seamlessly built 2007. The 2008 is another fabulous Cabernet Sauvignon from this magical sector just south of the Oakville Crossroads.

Heidi Barret was the original winemaker of the signature wine, predominately Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The 1992 vintage garnered 99 points from Robert Parker and propelled the brand into instant cult status. Supply, meet demand. With only 500 cases in production a year, thousands clamor for spots on the mailing list. The price of a single bottle starts at around $1000, with interstellar auction prices.    In 2006, the winery was sold to NBA officials Charles Banks and Stanley Kroenke, who brought on Andy Erickson (of Dalla Valle, Ovid, Arietta, Favia, and others) as principal winemaker. Parts of the vineyard were replanted under this new management, with more of the Cabernet and less of the other varietals. In 2009, Kroenke became sole proprietor. Nick Gislason took over winemaking duties as of 2011.  Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.
