Schug Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2009
We crafted this Chardonnay from select vineyards located in the Sonoma Coast appellation, including the microclimates of western Carneros, southern Sonoma Valley and the Petaluma Gap. Produced in a lively, crisp style that emphasizes varietal character without the use of new oak, it has a spicy citrus bouquet that leads to juicy flavors of white peach and nectarine, followed by a sleek, juicy finish.
Editorial Reviews for Schug Sonoma Coast Chardonnay
Light peach and lemon aromas with a touch of baked apple and a creamy note that's a reminiscent of rice pudding. Rich and full in the mouth, with lemon, peach, orange blossom and green apple flavors, toast and vanilla and a finish that hints at more acidity and oak than is found on the attack.
Fresh and subtle on the nose with vague floral background notes layered under a core of pineapple and peach fruits. There’s a hint of wood here as well adding a gentle nuance of spice. Clean and bright on entry, this is a bit firm today but shows some mineral notes and a light sweet edge to the apple peel, lemon pith and pineapple flavors that catch a peachy glow on the backend and through the long, mineral laden finish. Richly flavored but with a certain delicacy to it, this shows fine depth on the palate and complex fruit and savory flavors. Old world style, new world fruit. 90pts

Decent Sonoma Coast Chardonnay that is citrus fruit driven with a hefty amount of acidity. Tastes like there's little to no oak and little to no malo, so it's a bit angular, could use a bit of roundness to balance it out.
The pure expression of the Schug Chardonnay has always impressed; this wine is a quintessentially clean California white with all the stewed honey and white fruit that seems to enter the nostrils from this neck of the woods. Not a French wine, but who cares? On the palate, there is just a touch of acerbity but plenty of smooth, spring-like cleanliness on the palate - something like a good bottled water infused with cooked apple. Excellent value and to be emulated. 89 points.

Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Lightly leesy with touches of caramel and vanilla sitting to the side of its central message of green-apple fruit, this energetic medium-weighted effort goes for brightness rather than brawn. Although not an especially big wine, it shows a fine sense of concentration, and, if just a bit hard and edging a little to tartness at the finish, it will serve as a useful partner to any number of simply broiled fish preparations.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.
Fresh and flinty, this is medium-bodied, with Key lime, citrus and green apple flavors that have lively acidity. Drink now through 2011.
