Deeply aromatic, with light cola and sassafras spice notes topping bright cranberry/cherry fruit. On entry this shows a lovely initial note of a earth and old wood followed by nice spice accents. While this is a touch soft and broad in the mouth, a touch flannelly even, the barely perceptible supple tannins offer nice gentle support. With a nice hint of truffle funk on the mid-palate accenting the core of fresh red fruit, and just a hint of red plum skin astringency, this shows delicate textural and flavor complexity, though it’s the core of fruit that really shows great follow through on the finish. This possess a fine suggestion of the sweetness and ripeness to its core of barely ripe raspberry flavors. 91 points
A rather nice nose of smoky oak, cola, sweet ham, root beer, apple butter, pomegranate and nuanced light tobacco tones. Bigish in the mouth with really nice acids and a touch of tannin but all in balance with a harmonious mouthfeel and layered ripe cherry, mineral, oak, and cola note that turn lean and transparent on the back end finishing nicely with moderately long toasty oak and complex, autumnal dried vegetal notes. The alcohol is a touch obvious on both the nose and the palate but overall presents an attractive array of aged flavors in a restrained, almost elegant package. This is drinking well and will be at it's best 2009-2012 89pts
Spicy nose of black cherries, black pepper, and even a bit of lighter red fruit. The palate is bright, tart, acidic, with bunches of cranberries, oak and leather. Slightly medicinal on the finish, think children's cough syrup or a cherry amaro, which I happen to like... This is a mouth coater and sticks around for quite a while.
Mellow aged red/brown color. Instantly cleared out my nose with its high alcohol content. Very acidic with a subtle dry spiciness on the finish. Not amazed.
A very nice wine. Beautiful earthy, meaty mineral nose - really special. In the mouth its good enough wet wool, barnyard and dirt to keep it interesting, but thats balanced by some very nice spicy glacier cherry and sweet fruit. Very highly recommended
Low key kind of action, a lot of depth and delicacy with a lively spark. Intelligent and respectable. A lot of what this juice brings to the table you haven't had in awhile, if at all. Maple, thanksgiving flavors, but not too Martha Stewart, chocolate, blueberries.
Well balance style of CA pinot. Some briar and cola notes on the nose, but this doesnt mask any of the fairly bright fruit. Some smoke and tobacco is mixed in nicely with red and blue fruits on the palate. Spicy zesty tannins finish it off.
Light, but still reasonably complex with delicate cherry and strawberry flavors. Nice tannins. Though this particular offering from Schug was oaked more than the Sonoma Coast and Carneros pinot noirs that I tasted, it did not create an overpowering or exceedingly full wine, but rather helped to add a subtle complexity. Overall, pretty nice.
Schug does beautiful accesible wines. I want some right now.

Do you love white peaches? I do. Can’t get enough of them in the summer – they are the epitome of all that is right with California, despite her faults. If you enjoy Chardonnay that eschews the use of new oak and instead puts the fruit on center stage, naked and unabashed, this is your glass of pleasure. The 2006 Schug Carneros Estate Chardonnay comes from the Sonoma Coast appellation, which includes only the cooler portions of Sonoma County that are ideal for growing Chardonnay, including Carneros, southern Sonoma Valley, and the fog-influence microclimates of western Sonoma County. It was 20 percent oak cask fermented and 80 percent cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks. It was then 20 percent aged “sur-lie” for 5 months in 300 to 600 gallon neutral oak casks. This is old world winemaking from a very old world name in California wine history. This lithe Chardonnay has a wonderful hint of citrus on the nose. It is really easy to drink, beautifully crisp and refreshing in the mouth, and sleek and juicy on the finish. You just get peaches and nectarines forever. I swear I dribbled it on my chin, just like biting into the ripest, most wonderful pure essence of summer peach. A great way to keep summer flowing in your house.
