Schramsberg Vineyards Blanc de Blancs Carneros 2007
A must have for any sparkling wine aficionado: the Schramsberg sparkling wine saber. This saber is made by French cutlery maker Laguiol. The blade is made from a fine stainless steel and the handle is carved out of rosewood. The overall length of this sabering sword is 16.5 inches. The saber is packaged in a wood box with a sliding top.The tradition of sabering a bottle of sparkling wine dates back to the Napoleon era. Back from the battlefield, Napoleon's comanders realized that opening a bottle of Champagne with their sabers did wonders to charm the ladies of this era. We also suspect that consumption of the beverage helped as well. Today the tradition of sabering bottles of sparkling wine continues and events at Schramsberg often start with this ritual. With practice, the wielder can slice through the top of the bottle cleanly in a truly magnificent style. A word of caution: please receive proper training on the art of sabering before using a saber to open a bottle of sparkling wine. This activity is not without risk.
