What to Expect

California has long struggled with Pinot Noir. Finding the right vineyards for this most fickle of grape, one that enjoys a cool growing season yet needs warmth close to harvest to fully ripen, has proven a challenge in such a sunny state. Cooler areas eventually became identified; the Santa Rita Hills, Russian River Valley and Mendocino's Anderson valley are all prime spots for Pinot Noir in California. Unlike the lighter colored and sometimes delicate Pinots of Burgundy, California produces many rich, deep Pinots full of slightly chewy dark berry and cherry fruits with hints of cola, Asian spices and forest floor frequently adding complexity.

Winemakers Notes

Notes on the Schramsberg Blanc De Noirs California 2004 : WINEMAKER NOTES: The 2004 Blanc de Noirs offers the essence of baked berry, nectarine, dried tropical fruit and cherry blossom with subtle aromas of warm pie crust, biscuit and graham cracker. Hints of guava and tonic lend an exotic note. The creamy mid-palate gives way to a zesty red tropical fruit finish. This bright, quenching wine will develop plenty of character and complexity over time while retaining it's youthful integrity. -WinemakersHugh Davies and Craig RoemerSCHRAMSBERG BLANC DE NOIRS CALIFORNIA 2004

Reviews

A balance of bright flavors, crisp acidity and minimal tannins and a mature, toasty style. The youthful fruit character of the wine will caramelize and soften with additional age in the bottle. With proper storage, this sparkling wine will be delicious for many years, even a couple of decades to come. My favorite. Every time.

I like this sparking. It's good for toasting, gets nice comments from guests, but I really dislike this one with food. I don't know a lot about sparkling so maybe that is a stupid observation but I'm putting it out here for any n00bs who thought they might serve this with food. Also the bubbles have a bite to them that can burn so I suggest serving this BEFORE food after.

I tasted this on June 19, 2007.

Soft floral nose. Tart finish, light mouthfeel.

Bright and lovely, this vivacious bubbly can barely contain the berry and candied citrus aromas that soar up from the glass. The exuberant bouquet is perfect preparation for the decadent palate impression, oozing stone fruits and subtle notes of vanilla and cream.

Beautiful mousse; fine, persistent bubbles on a creamy body.
Very round and soft, with a touch of refreshing acidity and some almond and flowery notes.

Wine Tasting NotesPale in color, with delicate dough, smoke and vanilla notes, but youll find the Pinot Noir in the suggestion of cherries in the aroma, and a red-berry weight in the mouth. This is a beautiful wine, elegant and crisp, filled with balance and harmony and length.
