($80; 100% chardonnay) Hazy peach skin color. High-toned aromas of honey, apricot, orange marmalade, butterscotch and marzipan; smells like a botrytis wine. The palate combines a grilled, buttery aspect with distinctly saline notes of vanilla cream and banana taffy. An impression of tartaric (and acetic?) acidity gives this a faint sour edge. There's also an exotic side to this wine, which reminded me of a 20-year-old white Burgundy. But with its tart edge, this needs to be served with food. Strange but intriguing: you've been warned.
