H. Dönnhoff:
A Nahe estate - and one of the top performers. Not many estates outside the Mosel receive as much attention as those within it, but if there are any exceptions then perhaps Dönnhoff is one. The estate, which is over 12 hectares in size, has been in the Dönnhoff family since 1750, and is currently run by Helmut Dönnhoff. The Dönnhoffs own vines in only the top vineyards of the Nahe Valley. These vineyards are sited in several nearby villages, namely Niederhäuser (Hermannshöhle), Oberhauser (Brucke), Schloßböckelheimer (Felsenberg and Kupfergrube), and Norheimer (Kirschheck and Dellchen). The vineyards are principally slate or volcanic soil, and are planted with Riesling and also some Burgundian varieties. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

nice rich, full flavors of grapefruit, melon and some stoniness. ultimately, however, lacks any kind of precision or grace. not my favorite.

opened Friday for the initial taste, re-corked and tasted again Sunday. very good Friday night, stunning on Sunday. On both nights it exhibited incredible minerality, but on Friday the fruit was muted and hidden. Sunday's wine was wide open with apricot and grapefruits, wet stones and spice on a steely and balanced frame. Near perfect match for grilled sausage with dijon mustard.
