Schloss Vollrads Riesling Erstes Gewächs 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

With nearly 800 years of viticulture experience, Schloss Vollrads is one of the oldest wine estates, not only in Germany, but probably in the world. Situated in the heart of the Rheingau, the estate’s 60 hectares of vineyards are planted exclusively with Riesling. With the death of Erwein Count Matuschka-Greiffenclau in 1997, the ownership of Schloss Vollrads passed to the Nassauische Sparkasse, which carries on the family’s tradition of viticulture. This Riesling is light greeny gold in colour, with fragrant perfumes of lemon and lime following through to a lively, zesty fruit with ripe, grapey fruit balanced by a mineral acidity characteristic of the best Rheingau Rieslings. It has a long, aromatic finish.

Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

This review is for the Kabinett wine not the Erstes Gewachs. Somehow the title got changed. Nice acid balance with a good amount of mineral, sets this wine apart from the less expensive Kabinetts. Nice fruit but fades a bit with air, indicating a limited shelf life. A nice wine from a very good vintage; for drinking until 2016. My rating -- 91

It has a pale yellow color. The nose has strong aromas of apples and fresh peaches. A sip reveals flavors of apples and citrus fruit. It is creamy on the tongue and very well balanced (refreshing even

Farbe: Strohgelb. Kräftiger, feinwürziger Riesling. Ausdrucksstarke, reife Fruchtaromen von Pfirsich und Ananas und lebendiger Säure.
