Schloss Reinhartshausen Riesling Erstes Gewächs Erbacher Schlossberg 2009

External Review by Palm Bay International:

/ The most improved collection last year was that of Schloss Reinhartshausen in Erbach. …This estate is evolving into a potent force and did produce a number of serious wines, such as the 2006 Erbacher Marcobrunn Riesling Auslese. Keep your eye on the happenings here!

Erbacher Marcobrunn Auslese 2006 - 4 Stars, Restaurant Wine/ Marcobrunn is one of the Rheingau’s great vineyards, yielding Rieslings with tremendous breadth and depth of flavor. It is 16.5 acres in size, and is owned by several producers, including Reinhartshausen, who owns 2.47 acres of it. The 2006 is fleshy and rich, with strong botrytis character, and tastes of peach jam, pineapple, walnut, and orange blossom. Long persistence. Very ripely styled.

Erbacher Marcobrunn Auslese 2009 - 4+ Stars, Restaurant Wine/ Marcobrunn is one of the Rheingau’s great vineyards, yielding Rieslings with tremendous breadth and depth of flavor. It is 16.5 acres in size, and is owned by several producers, including Reinhartshausen, who owns 2.47 acres of it...beautifully balanced and extremely distinct in character (showing less botrytis). It is nevertheless intensely flavored, medium sweet, and very long on the finish, tasting of cherimoya, straw, peach, and honeysuckle.

/ Pale golden yellow. Aromas of ripe peach, papaya and vanilla. Elegantly sweet, creamy passion fruit flavors remain light on the palate. Well-balanced acidity with just enough spice on the finish makes this a classical Riesling that will need time to evolve.
