Schild Estate Shiraz 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

Sourced from a number of carefully selected estate vineyard parcels in an around Lyndoch and Rowland Flat, Schild Estate's Barossa Shiraz is designed to reflect the soft elegant palate of Schild's viticultural home in the Southern portions of the Barossa Valley. Colour: Dark ruby, with purple, black hues. Bouquet: Expressive aromas of blood plums, blueberries, raspberries, dark chocolate and subtle controlled oak spice Palate: Those intense dark plum flavours also show on the palate alongside tastes of dark chocolate, vanilla bean and cloves all of which aid in providing a fullness of mouth feel. Intertwined with all of this is a firm, but fine tannin frame delivering an ever present direction of travel and structure to wrap in and around the fruit. The dark berry fruit holds to the end to help the wine roll out through a long, comforting finish. Cellaring: Drink to 2021

The Schild name has a long history in the Barossa dating back to 1952 when Ben Schild purchased the Three Springs Farm property in Rowland Flat and settled with his family. Ben transformed the land into a mixed farm with a focus on sustainable viticulture. Ben’s son Ed took over the property at the tender age of 16, after his sudden death in 1956. Through careful management and a keen eye for premium Barossa vineyards Ed has cemented himself as one of the largest independent premium grape growers in the region with over 400 acres under vine. Today second and third generation vigneron’s work side by side to solidify Schild Estate’s reputation, built on its commitment to translating the unique tapestry of its vineyards into wines that speak of honesty and drinkability. Schild Estate’s vineyards include some of the oldest in Australia including the famous Moorooroo vineyard near Jacob’s Creek, which was planted in 1847 by William and John Jacob. Ed’s vineyard site selection has favoured the cooler, southern end of the Barossa near Lyndoch, which enjoys a slower and longer ripening period – perfect for optimum grape flavour development. These generous wines are spearheaded by the iconic Moorooroo Shiraz, demonstrating regional integrity and illustrating Schild Estate’s reputation as Pure Barossa. Read less
