Schild Estate Merlot Barossa Valley 2009
This is a fuller style merlot with generous aromas of black plums, cherries, herbs and cinnamon spice. The nose follows through to the palate with even greater complexity and weight. Fine grained tannins balance with the youthful acidity. This wine is capable of complimenting many styles of food.
Unexpected, different nose. Sour red cherry, turned soil and scorched earth. On the palate, bright, juicy and ripe red cherry. Good acid giving it a vibrant profile. Fresh, sweet fruit. Very unexpected and rather un-Merlot-like. Almost pinot noir-esque. Nice and different. 3/10/12
