Scherrer Winery Russian River Valley Pinot Noir 2010
92 points Stephen Tanzer (International Wine Cellar): Bright ruby-red. Smoky cherry and red berry aromas, with hints of licorice and spicecake in the background. Spicy and focused on entry, then deeper in the mid-palate, offering potent raspberry and bitter cherry flavors and a hint of succulent herbs. The smoky note comes back on the finish, which is taut, brisk and very persistent. (May 2013)
2010 Vintage. Fred does it again. Every Scherrer pinot I've had has been spot on, this was no exception. Fresh black, red and bing cherries balanced with notes of cola, racy acidity and a touch of black tea.
Here are my notes for the '08: "Extremely nice Pinot from Fred Scherrer. Well balanced with nice acidity, dark cherry, rhubarb, some white pepper and a very nice long finish." The '09 is more bright red fruit, less spice and a touch more acidity but still the whole package is in sync with all parts in perfect balance.
I have yet to find a Scherrer wine that I did not absolutely love and this 2008 Pinot is no exception. Very Burgundian in style with bright red cherry, black cherry and blackberry fruit in perfect balance with slightly mouth watering acidity. Nicely layered with a fairly long finish.
This is a fairly big Pinot with lots of dark fruit, smoke, just a hint of sweetness on the mid palate, and a very long finish. This is NOT your strawberry, bubble gum Pinot, not subtle but very flavorful.

Good Russian River Pinot that's very ripe and pretty tannic. Stuffed with lipsmacking cherry, blackberry, cola and cocoa flavors. Feels thick and a little soft and heavy in the mouth. Not an ager.
