What to Expect

California's Napa Valley has been a source of world-class Cabernet Sauvignon for well over a century. Its warm climate and varied terrain allows for many styles of wine. One thread that runs through almost all the Cabernet based wines from Napa is their lush, ripe full-bodied feel and rich flavors of currant and berry. Wines from the valley floor, particularly around Rutherford, are famed for a dusty quality and those coming from the hillsides surrounding the valley, Mt. Veeder, Diamond Mountain and Howell Mountain for example, tend to be a little leaner with more obvious structural elements.

WA 93Pts - Tasting Notes - The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Wall Vineyard includes 11% Cabernet Franc in the blend. It is a stunning, opaque purple-hued effort displaying notes of creme de cassis, camphor, incense, and licorice. Deep, pure, and full-bodied with broad, savory flavors, and sweet tannin, it should drink well for two decades or more.

Up on Mount Veeder, you have to wind up a long road before arriving at Duane Wall's picturesque vineyard. The Cabernet Sauvignon from this remote vineyard has a dense purple color with classic creme de cassis, black plum, and cedar characteristics. The 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon Wall offering looks terrific. It is a killer example of Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Veeder.Ed Sbragia, the long-time and highly-esteemed winemaker at Beringer, also has his own family operation where he produces 5,000 plus cases of wine, primarily top-notch Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. -Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 94-96
