What to Expect

Chardonnay is America's most popular grape and with good reason. Made in styles that range from steely, mineral laced wines with crisp green apple fruit to wines that are buttery, rich, and laden with tropical fruits, there is a Chardonnay that will appeal to every palate. Chardonnay is most closely associated with France's Burgundy region and California's Northern valleys though it has proven successful around the globe.

Winemaker's Comments
I've made Chardonnay from Gamble Ranch for so many years that it was a natural choice when I decided to make a Napa Valley Chardonnay for Sbragia Family Vineyards. This is the third vintage for this wine and I'm pleased, as always, with its multiple layers of complexity that are already built in. The fruit comes from several blocks on the Gamble property where there are lots of different clones planted. Stylistically, my goal was to make a Chardonnay as concentrated, rich and full-bodied as possible, while keeping the wine in balance and maintaining read more...the vineyard's terroir and Chardonnay expression. This wine enjoyed a three-week long cool fermentation before we barrel fermented the juice and aged the wine in 100% new French Burgundian oak barrels. We stirred the lees weekly during the first nine months to integrate the wood influences, then monthly for the next nine months to get an extra layer of flavor that elevates the character of the wine. The wine features rich butterscotch, crème brulee, ripe apple and toasted almond aromas and flavors which are balanced by a crisp acidity and back notes of citrus and subtle minerality. The lushness and creaminess of this wine carries through to a long finish, with just a touch of yeasty nuttiness. My wife Jane and I enjoy this wine with fresh prawns sautéed in lots of butter and garlic. How could you go wrong? Appellation: Yountville, Napa Valley
