Sbragia Family Sauvignon Blanc Dry Creek Valley Home Ranch 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

VINEYARD Our Home Ranch Vineyard, which the Sbragia family has been farming for decades, is located on the east side of Dry Creek in Sonoma County. The five-acre Sauvignon Blanc parcel benefits from temperatures that are a bit cooler than most of the appellation, resulting in a Sauvignon Blanc with bright fruit flavors, good structure and a nice balanced acidity. WINEMAKING When crafting the Home Ranch Sauvignon Blanc, we chose 100 percent stainless steel fermentation to protect the brightness of the fruit. The wine is 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc and saw no new oak aging, but instead was put in three-year-old barrels. A unique feature of this wine is the Vino-Seal glass closure which combines the ease of opening with a hermetic seal, effectively protecting the bouquet and fragrance of the wine. WINEMAKER COMMENTS "The family vineyards are my father's legacy and I get so much joy from crafting wines from our Home Ranch. The release of the 2006 Home Ranch Sauvignon Blanc marks a milestone in that it was the first wine we made entirely at our new winery home in Geyserville. This wine has wonderful tropical, citrus fruit and melon aromas and flavors with hints of dried pineapple, stone fruit and lemongrass that lead to a tangy fruit-driven finish. This wine screams Sauvignon Blanc and is very different from the full-bodied, oak-driven Chardonnays I usually make. I think it's perfect for summer sipping on the porch of our new winery!" HARVEST: September 14-15, 2006 CASE PRODUCTION: 1,100 ALCOHOL: 14.2%

I've had for some time, a small, family-owned winery making limited, individual lots of wine from grapes grown in select blocks of my favorite vineyards. I've always had one foot in Sonoma and the other in Napa. Both areas mean a lot to me emotionally. I'm more attached to Dry Creek because it's where I raised my kids. But the wines that I've made at Beringer are like children, so Napa is also a very special place for me. Either way, the wines are intensely personal, an expression not only of terroir, but of my family's winemaking heritage. -Ed Sbragia   Come visit us at our beautiful location at the end of Dry Creek Road. Our winery is perched on a hillside, overlooking the entire valley with sweeping views from our terrace. Guests are invited to bring a picnic or purchase light deli items from our tasting room and enjoy the sunshine and vineyard views. Seated Terrace Tastings are now available by appointment. Sbragia Family Vineyards prides itself on its single vineyard varietals and small case production. Varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Most of the wines are made from vineyards owned by the Sbragia family, but do include select vineyards from Sonoma and Napa Valley as well. Our wines have received many accolades and are considered some of California’s best. The only thing better than the view is the wine! Read less
