Sbragia Family Chardonnay Dry Creek Valley Home Ranch 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

2006 Sbragia Chardonnay Home Ranch (from the home vineyard of 13 acres) exhibits notes of buttered citrus, minerals, and a subtle hint of oak. It is an elegant, medium to full-bodied effort with a distinctive earthiness. Enjoy it over the next several years.Ed Sbragia, the long-time and highly-esteemed winemaker at Beringer, also has his own family operation where he produces 5,000 plus cases of wine, primarily top-notch Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.Wine Advocate # 174 Dec 2007 A rich, smoky-toasty roasted marshmallow style. Bold and complex in a distinctive style, with fig and candied apple flavors that are a bit raw but very complex. Needs a year. Drink now through 2010. 2,190 cases made. I've had for some time, a small, family-owned winery making limited, individual lots of wine from grapes grown in select blocks of my favorite vineyards. I've always had one foot in Sonoma and the other in Napa. Both areas mean a lot to me emotionally. I'm more attached to Dry Creek because it's where I raised my kids. But the wines that I've made at Beringer are like children, so Napa is also a very special place for me. Either way, the wines are intensely personal, an expression not only of terroir, but of my family's winemaking heritage. -Ed Sbragia   Come visit us at our beautiful location at the end of Dry Creek Road. Our winery is perched on a hillside, overlooking the entire valley with sweeping views from our terrace. Guests are invited to bring a picnic or purchase light deli items from our tasting room and enjoy the sunshine and vineyard views. Seated Terrace Tastings are now available by appointment. Sbragia Family Vineyards prides itself on its single vineyard varietals and small case production. Varieties include Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Merlot, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Most of the wines are made from vineyards owned by the Sbragia family, but do include select vineyards from Sonoma and Napa Valley as well. Our wines have received many accolades and are considered some of California’s best. The only thing better than the view is the wine! Read less

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 90Sbragias 2006 Chardonnay Dry Creek (from the home vineyard of 13 acres) exhibits notes of buttered citrus, minerals, and a subtle hint of oak. It is an elegant, medium to full-bodied effort with a distinctive earthiness. Enjoy it over the next several years.Wine Tasting NotesThe Chardonnay has wonderful aromas of Bartlett pears, oranges and fresh pineapple with spice notes and a hint of Dry Creek minerality that lingers through the mouth and into the finish. When I drink this wine I am reminded of a citrus zest infused creme brulee.

Wine Advocate ReviewRated 92Another offering that is more restrained than it used to be is the 2006 Chardonnay Sbragia Limited Release. It reveals an opulent tropical fruit character, a full-bodied mouthfeel, and hints of hazelnut, brioche, and honeysuckle as well as abundant glycerin and length. Good acidity provides balance and overall zest. Drink it over the next 3-4 years.Wine Tasting NotesGorgeous aromas of citrus and butterscotch greet the nose as rich flavors of lemon, creme brulee and spice fill the mouth and linger throughout a long and saturated finish. Enjoy!
